Using Theatre to Connect with Our Community and to Foster Social Change

This new online Fall program was developed as a way for Middle and High School students to continue their theatre education, exercise their performance talents, and connect with their community through SSC’s mission of inclusion, diversity and community engagement.

With a focus on theatre and social change, the Community Connection Project will teach students about the power of art to tell stories, create hope, and inspire change.


  • The opportunity to workshop and perform in a Southern Shakespeare Company PSA which will air on television
  • Workshops and lectures led by diverse and skilled local professionals on social justice topics and theatre-related skills
  • Workshopping Shakespearean scenes in the context of diversity in our community
  • Training in writing and collaborating for performance
  • Volunteer and outreach opportunities

Audition Information

Auditions will be held via Zoom on Saturday, Sept. 5th and Sunday, Sept. 6th between the hours of 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. Please select at least 3 of the time slots below during which you are available to audition:

For your audition, please prepare:

  • A 90 second monologue of your choice, comedic or dramatic, classical or contemporary
  • An answer to the following question: what does “theatre for social change” mean to you? (there is no right or wrong answer to this question!)

Membership Fee

The Membership Fee for the Fall Semester of The Bardlings and participation in The Bardlings Community Connection Project is $150 for the semester and includes:

  • Bi-weekly Zoom meetings for theatre training, PSA rehearsal, writing workshopping of Spring project
  • guest lecturers on topics relating to our “Theatre for Social Change” theme
  • Access to SSC Workshops and online events
  • Participation in the filming of a Southern Shakespeare Company PSA which will air live on local channels

After auditions have been conducted a link for payment will be emailed to each accepted Bardling’s Parent/Guardian.
